Money is like love; it kills slowly and painfully the one who withholds it, and enlivens the other who turns it on his fellow man.”--Khalil Gibran
My first contact with the quote above gave me chills. All of a sudden dots were connected and my mind wanted more understanding. No wonder many of us struggle with money. As relationships reveal our wounds, fears and secrets so does our views on money.
Money makes every relationship possible.
I can’t deny how many times I’ve heard sad stories about finances being the factor of divorce. Some of us cringe to the idea of having conversations about money with our loved ones and I was like that too.
For some context I would like to talk about my own experience with this. My dad was a civil servant who worked for the government all his life. I watched my mother take care of the house and hustle her way around a few businesses to support.
After my parents got separated I struggled to find my bearing. It was a very difficult situation. Fast forward, I’m an adult who has beliefs around money that aren’t serving me at all.
Curiosity about building and maintaining wealth fuels my drive to solve problems. With zero background in finances how does anyone begin?
